    Hi Folks,

It occurred to me that about everyone has a project, plan or idea for a project or a modification that is pretty radical. I know I have had more than a few myself and I even dismissed some of them thinking they were too far out. I even recall a few that looking back I wish I had at least tried to do. So I thought it might be interesting to see and/or hear about a few ideas and projects some of the folks here have done or are thinking about doing.

I'll star out with just a few ideas I have had. The reality is that they will probably never get done or even started as I probably could not live long enough to get them done with all the other stuff I have going.

When I built the Scoobygator, see that project in the off road vehicles category, https://darksidersrealm.forumotion.com/custom-home-built-f23/off-to-the-car-show-t195.htm I spent some time at a local Subaru junkyard. Although my drive train came from an older model, I looked at a lot of the newer ones and got an idea to use the later model DOHC turbocharged 2WD version in a very low two seater version as a mid engine drive set up with the steering sector from another one in front and build it all into an integrated tubular cage and chassis system. You can get some of those Subaru engines up to the 300 HP mark with mods. The thing would have been about three feet tall and about 1,500 pounds. It would have definitely been an all out screamer. I was also thinking about four wheel steering.

Another project I once considered, and should have done because I had most of the stuff, was to make a cab for an old two ton Chevy dump truck I had out a a 70's vintage Malibu 4DR body I had by cutting the cab short right behind the front doors. The truck was a screamer because it had a big beefy engine I built up but the body was rusted and breaking apart. If I had done it I would probably still own the thing.

OK, I think you get the idea... Let's hear about some of the stuff you have done or thought about doing. You never know, your ideas may be an inspiration for someone else to try something different. Hey, that's what the Darkside is all about.

    Later Folks...

Man that had to be one hell of a go kart ride. The no brakes part is kind of freaky too.

Let's get started... Empty smaller lighter

Assuming I resurect the '85 Capri (1st new car) at some point..... I have thought about the size, weight, and frontal area presented by the popular pony cars. I have drawn up some ideas of a car I would like to make when the time & funds are available.
It would be a tube frame 1988 Ford Exp (yea the spin off of the Escort). While a stroked small block would appear to be the obvious motivator, a heavily built 2.3/2.5L turbo may have a performance advantage. The aerodynamics of the last gen EXP (with the bubble hatch) coupled with the right drivetrain could make for a very interesting ride. A Dodge Daytona of the same year has the same size and shape characteristics (except for the flat hatch glass). But I know less about the Chrysler turbo engines than I do about motorcycles.
