Do you remember them ???
You know the red Radio Flyer wagons for kids...
They have made them for years. I remember them when I was a kid and my son had one.
Well, that is the inspiration for one of my '53s. Maybe I should explain...
In addition to my other hobby vices I am a Ham Radio guy, call sign KB8TRR. I saw an old ad the other day for a Radio Flyer wagon and it got me to thinking. It was one of those instant inspirations. It gave me an idea for a theme for my truck plus a way to integrate my Ham Radio interests with my long standing desire to have a truck like my '53. I have about six different types of mobile ham rigs that cover a wide spectrum of frequencies and modes. At one time I was going to put them all in a console in my '03 F-350 dually diesel. For some reason it never really seemed to be a practical idea so I never did it. My plan now is to incorporate all of them in my '53 F-100, have it painted bright red and put the Radio Flyer logo on the sides of the bed. It would be similar to the little red pick up that Dodge came out with way back aways. It will have a chrome roll bar for lights and ham radio antennas coming up through the running boards. It is going to be set on a '99 Explorer 4WD rolling chassis with a slightly warmed 351-W and a 4sp. tranny and manual transfer case. I will be also using the Explorer's floor pan and firewall so I can incorporate all the instruments, heat and air, full dash board and steering column. The interior will be gray and red with high back bucket power seats and a consloe with the ham radio stuff in it. the ham radio gear will be incorporated into the vehicle control systems to facilitate remote start, and other security features. It will also have a kick ass audio system and GPS. To top off the Little red wagom theme there will be natural polyurethane coated set of side boards on the stake pockets. The custom treatments will be a bit retro like slotted mags and no skinny minny tires.
A lot of ideas are still up in the air and subject to change. One of our members who is very busy at present is going to work up a photoshop rendering of my ideas for this truck. When he gets it done I will post the picture on this thread. Hopefully this will become the build thread. The rolling chassis I have from the '99 Explorer is already stripped and ready to fit the drive train in. I also have the drive train sitting on a wheeled trailer base ready to start work on. Hopefully I will be able to start in late aJuly on this truck.
Coments and ideas welcome... Who knows??? I might even take your suggestions.
Later Folks...
