Hi Folks,
First off, I thought I had already done this but I must have done it wrong because I can't find it this morning. I must be smokin' some really good stuff...
I am on the horns of a dilemma as they say... Two days ago I was called by a guy desperate to sell a wrecked '90 T-Bird Super Coupe. I had seen his ad for it and called several days before where I left a message. Monday I was in town driving around to do some errands and my cell rang. That happens a lot so I have long since gone hands free with a Bluetooth earpiece. On draw back is that while driving I can't always understand everything the callers say. It turned out to be the guy who had the SC for sale. He was in a panic because it was being towed to an impound lot where they charge $15.00/day. He originally was wanting $700.00 for it. Now he was in a bind and wanted $450.00. So, right then and there I altered all my plans and headed for the place the car was which was about 15 miles a way. I met him there, looked over the car and made the deal.
Now I have this thing home and sitting out there in the trailer. I managed to get it started. It has been sitting for two years and the battery is no good. I jumped it and started on the third hit. It runs good and it does not blow smoke. Aside from the wrecked part it seems to be a very solid car. It does have a number of issues that while are fixable if I can find the parts, it would probably be rather expensive to restore. My original line of thought was to part the thing out because there are things like the engine, tranny and IRS that would bring big bucks. Now that I have the damn thing I am nagged by this little voice in the back of my head that says restore it. Around here at least, you hardly ever see a Super Coupe. I remember my son having an '89 Mustang GT that was fast as hell and he told me one of these things gave him a hell of a run. We had '94 and '95 Birds back in the '90s and I remember them as being great road cars even though they weren't worth a hoot on snow. I always like their looks.
So, I think you can see my dilemma... Part it out, take the money and run or keep it to restore and spend a ton of bucks on it. It's a battle between making some bucks or taking on another project that I probably won't ever get done. Help me out here guys. Let's her some thoughts on this. Right now I am thinking of at least seeing if i could collect the parts to repair and restore it because it might be profitable to sell it with all the parts if I decided not to do it myself. Here are a few pictures of it.
The radiator and intercooler are not damaged. I just need the radiator support, A/C coil, bumper, grille, front lighting and a new dash as the one in it is cracked from sunlight exposure. This thing has no rust, great maint. records and a pretty good interior plus a kick ass after market sound system.
What do you think guys???
