    Hi Folks...
    The last few weeks have been overwhelming for this old geezer. On top of running around all over the place and dealing with a number of things that I don't want to do I have also been looking at a lot of potential project vehicles. This past Thursday I went with a friend of mine to see some cars a friend of his had. He is a retired state trooper who is 75 now and has a few buildings loaded with cars. Two in particular caught my eye. the first one is a '56 Ford Customline series 2dht that is in running condition but really needs a restore job. It comes with all the stuff needed to do the job including body panels and a lot of extra stuff like trim and lighting. It has the "Y" block and an automatic in it but it just begs for a updated drive train.

    The other one is a bit more of a project but it is a bit of a mystery. It's a '48 Mercury Business Coupe. Yeah, I know, I have been told there is no such thing. All the pieces are there plus extra body parts. No engine but I don't care about that. There is no reason to go with the purist restore route because I am told that there was no such thing as a '48 Mercury Business Coupe. However, this is one and the title says so.

    Take notice that the last of the above four pictures is of an actual '48 Merc 2 door coupe. Now, compare the roof line over the back side windows on the car in the pictures above.

    Nice, I would go with both of them. They both scream "build me!!!" If the price is right, that's even better. That '56 is something I've been looking for for the last several years. You could get it, and hang on to it for me....just saying.

    Its just me, but the 56 is the direction I'd go for myself. I guess I started driving on my Mom's 57Fairlane convertible and these 55/56 Fords and such were popular back at that time. And the twist is that for a long time, I've had no interest in them. Probably for the same reason. But time changes us all, and now they look great to me, and not often seen in my area. There is a very cool to me 55 in this months Dec 2011 Hot Rod. Its apparantly being built for Tim Allen--boy that guy has great taste in my opinion, by Steve Moal car builders in my neighborhood--East Bay--Oakland Ca. The car has a 32 valve 5.4L with a supercharger. Begging for a drive train update? That would be a cool choice if you found one. Etc. But both look cool, and its just me I guess but I'm actually fatiguing a little with fat fendered stuff--never thought I'd say that. HaHa I guess the mid 50 Ford cars are looking really good to me these days.

    My mom was born in '56, and that has always been a family dream, to own a '56 Fairlane, or Victoria. I wouldn't mind getting one, and stuffing the new 5.0 in one, backed by the 6 speed manual, or automatic transmission, and a posi 8.8. Keeping it stock in appearance, but with the modern drive train. That would be bitchin'.

    Unfortunately it's not a Faillane or a Crown Vic but the book refers to the 2DHT version as a Customline Victoria. From what I can tell it might be a bit more rare than the others.

    Damn!!! If Tim Allen has one I need one too. My problem is that my like for one thing never wanes when I am attracted to another thing. I just end up adding to the list. I would probably be better off if I directed my interest in just one area as opposed to adding on to the load.

    The '56 is a Customline Hard Top. It isn't a Victoria, only because of the trim, but could be a Victoria clone. They used the same body on all three models (Mainline-base package; Customline-middle package; Fairlane-top line) The Fairlane was the only "real" Victoria available line, but the Customline could be had in hard top. The prized unit, is the Plexi-topped Victoria. To me, without seeing them in person, and knowing that there will be rust, they're $500 cars, if they have pinks. Running, or very complete, or no rust cars start at $1200-$1500 around here. They all go down from there.

    This one runs and has had a lot done to it. It has a good title and documentation of all that was already done to it. There are also real Ford quarter panels in the cardboard boxes and a lot of extra trim to replace the pitted trim. The guy wants $4,000.00 for it. That is in order with the classic car price guide for a car in this condition without the spare parts. I agree that the transparent half top would be the ideal find but they are few and far between and if you find one it's a high dollar buy.

    Too much for me.....I did, however, recently see a Plexi-top for sale here in Oregon. It was about the same condition as the Merc you posted, but assembled. He wanted less than $1500, and I wished I would have had the money at the time. There is a 4 door, in better shape than the Merc, for sale around here too, that he wants $475 for it. It has no motor or transmission, but is farely complete otherwise.

    Man you are killin' me here... All those great deals and so far away. From what I've seen around here and down in the Atlanta area, the prices are about par with this stuff. By your standards these are high prices.. Problem for me is that if I came clear out there and loaded something up it still cost me that much or more by the time I paid for the trip. Bummer Man...

    Same with prices here. I don't see any "good deals" on mid fifty Ford cars. In fact I rarely see them..
    Sounds like you better get some money and start buying in your Oregon area. Not like that down in the Bay Area for sure.

    Yeah, I know. That's actually kinda the plan, to do some hoarding, while I can. There's a straight 53-55 panel body listed round here too. Guy wants $650 for it, with title. He has the frame as well, for another $400.

    There you go... See what I mean??? If I had found that deal I'd have sucked it up in an instant. I'm still grinding my brain over that COE. I know it can be fixed but I think I would at least need a hood. That C700 guy is in AZ and he probably wouldn't ship it if he had it or he would want too much. I can't get a message to him becausae there is no e-mail address in his profile. I keep thinking that if I buy it something better will show up. Decisions, decisiuons,,, It's killing ne...

    Oh no, Carl is a good guy. Shoot him an e-mail carlmg@carls-tab.com He's easy to work with, and does ship parts like doors, and hoods, and such. He'll likely greyhound one if you make a deal....
