    Hi Stevof1,

I'm guessing that by van truck you are referring to the rusty brown '48 cab and chassis with the box on the back as I don't recall any other van type trucks. You could make a neat car hauler with that. If these guys are like every place else I have been like this in the South, the prices are way too high. They have been watching way too much Barret-Jackson or reading those damn antique car and truck price guides. According to those things my two '53 F-100s were worth three times what I paid for them. In my opinion those are the two worst things for folks like us. They artificially inflate the prices beyond reason. I don't know where they come up with that stuff because it is not realistic.

Check out http://www.oldcarcity.com/ and see more of this sort of thing. I offered him 500 each for two totally wasted '54 F-100 panel trucks that you might have been able to make one truck out of if you had a source for more body parts and complete new drive trains. Although there were only about 10% as many panels made as there were pick ups the panels are not valued as high. The guy said no way... He wanted $1,800.00 for one and $2,400.00 for the other. You would have needed a chain saw to get the trees that grew through them cut out and a fork lift to move them. The point is that these places ask way too much and they usually get it from fools that have no idea what they are getting into.

All that said, I have to admit that the pictures the Kaptn' took are of vehicles a lot better than a lot of them I have seen. These are someplace in Arkansas I think but I don't know what part.

It just make me sick to see people watch cars and trucks rust away. Barret Jackson will be making money while these others watch their cars and truck rust beyond use.

Hey Dave thanks for posting the pics! Somewhere in my bag-o-tricks I have a super spiffy script that will parse a directory and spit out code to post all the pics. I just finished reinstalling winblows and couldn't seem to dig it up. I didn't have the patience or time to do it the long way.

I noticed you skipped a couple.

I have no clue what car that goes to. I found it under a bridge. Chances are my brother put it there for someone to find. The 1/2 that was in the river is pretty far gone the passenger side looks pretty good. If anyone can put it to use it's yours for shipping.
The pics start in Harrison AR on highway 65 and end on highway 412 somewhere around Mt. Home.

I'm sure you're right, I'd be willing to guess the guys are "proud of their junk" However, I'm of the opinion that if you start with something solid you'll save a lot of time, work & money in the end.

I like the old ford box van too. It's been sitting there for a LONG time. I can see the body sitting on a new F350 or Dodge chassis with an old school step side bed widened a bit to fit over a dualys. The kind of truck that makes you do a double take and think (what was that?)

    For show & tell:

The south view from the top of the mountain.

I didn't get a good shot of the view from the north side. Lets just say that it's just as nice. On a clear night you can see Branson MO from the dining room of the house pictured.

There are several tracts of land on the mountain for sale for about $3K an acre I'm thinking very hard about picking up one of the 20 acre plots just to have while it's available and still affordable.

Well actually I didn't do as much work as you might think. I just copied the link of the first pic and then pasted it 90 or so times and went through at about light speed boosting the number sequence. If you had renamed them I wouldn't have been able to do that, but since you left the camera assigned numeric sequence it was easy. I left the dash out on purpose because I had no ideas what it was from and it was obviously no good for anything. It is worse than the stuff I take on and that's saying something.

I noticed in one picture there was an old Lincoln SA-200 generator type welding machine. If you go to http://www.wfmservice.com/ and then scroll down the page and click on RESTORATIONyou will see the progression of one I restored form junk. There is also a Miller BIG-40 I did.

BTW, I have looked at a lot of cars in the South that appear to be about the caliber of the ones you took pictures of and they are still pretty bad in the floor pans and inner panels. The '53 I bought down in Atlanta is a good example of that. Go to http://www.pvpmedia.com/53-1.htm and take a look. It doesn't look bad on the surface but the floor and cab mounts are gone. The collector price books say my truck is worth $1,350.00 in the worst condition, (parts truck). I bought it from an individual for $500.00. I would venture to say it was in as good or better condition than a lot of the vehicles in your pictures. the so-called rust free barn finds are very rare and seldom found. Like I said before, since Barret-Jackson and all these collector car price guides, every back woods junk collector and hoarder thinks their stuff is made of gold. Meanwhile the stuff just continues to deteriorate while they sit and hope for a sucker to come along. I would also venture to say that most of the really rusty ones never get restored because they are way more work than they can handle. That's where I come into the picture... I look for and buy the stuff other people give up on.

I like the other pictures you posted. I think I am going to send out an e-mail to all members asking them to post interesting pictures of places that are in some way related to our interests here. I especially like pictures of old unique service stations, drive-in theaters and drive-in restaurants. I especially would like to see older pics with the old cars and trucks from the fifties in them. I think I'll start the thread and ask people to ad to it.

OK, gotta go... I gotta a date with the sandblasting rig and I hate it.

I thought about the cut & paste keyboard kung-fu. To be honest I was doing good to grab 4 hrs of sleep a night on my weeks "vacation" (sleep VS/keyboard? sleep wins...) I had a good time! I'm back up to 6 hrs a night again! (I wish for 36 hr days.)

I see projects as math: (time+money/end result=NEXT project!) If I can pay someone less than $30hr to take care of it for me and I don't have time or the interest to do it I'm sold! I love my job and OT is unlimited. If I'd rather be at work making money and would rather share the wealth than deal with it I'm happy to pass it on. To clarify Mon-Sat I go like hell, on Sunday I do as little as possible. Most Sundays I don't even get dressed or leave the house...

"Oh, there ain't no rest for the wicked,
    Money don't grow on trees.
    I got bills to pay,
    I got mouths to feed,
There ain't nothing in this world for free.
    I know I can't slow down,
    I can't hold back,
Though you know, I wish I could.
No there ain't no rest for the wicked,
Until we close our eyes for good". - Cage The Elephant (latest new theme song)

Speaking of witch I have a new project for the summer I could use your help with. It's right up your alley. (email headed your way...) Nice looking work on the welder BTW cherry

I like the idea about the picture thread, I think it would help to bring this little community together. If you don't post it I will Very Happy
