i know there were a few guys inquiring about this on the other site and i think Dave you were one of them, well this weekend i started working on my truck again!! got the chop pretty well wrapped up and decided to install mt Mid 50`s one piece window kit(less glass of course)1st thing instructions are absolutely useless from them, total waste of paper! well i`ll tell you this, before you cut up you door put a straight edge along the window chanel, the chanels they give you in the kit aren`t long enough on the outside of the door, if you cut and weld it that spot your chanel gaps will be out of wack (wider in front than the rear), the proper way is to first mark your inside chanel, cut and weld in place, cut yourself a piece of tin the width of the chanel and then work on marking the outer chanel, cutting and welding in place,i then had to add a piece of the old chanel, roughly 1/4 inch thick to compensate for the rail being too short an to fill the 1/4 inch gap between the door shell and the 90 degree plate. anyway i did take some pictures and will post them once i get the passenger door done.

Are you using solenoids to operate the door latches? I am considering using the recessed door handles and keyless entry code pad from my '90 T-Bird SC donor if I can figure out how to get get it to work.

Your welding looks good. Keeping the damn stuff from heat warping is the real problem. It looks like you did well on that account.

I'm still debating on shaving the drip rails. So far I am thinking of leaving them but I am considering filling the seams if I can get a good filler that will stay and not crack.

SHAVING THE DRIP RAILS IS NO FOR THE FAINT AT HART! ITS A REAL BEE!IN THOSE DAYS THEY USED THE DRIP RAils to hide their screw ups! roof being out of lign, doors out of wack!ect! i spent lots of time fixing this and probably wouldn`t do this again! my seams are all filled, filled them with weld, door latches i`m going to get the latch assembly off a chevy tracker, their small and from what i see the`ll fit perfectly, hook up a set of solenoids and the way i go! from a quick glance i think the heater/ air system from the tracker will also fit, if it quits raining i know a guy with a few of them that he`s parting out, i`m going to rip the system out and try mounting it to my truck.

Did your truck have an original Ford heater or an after market heater? Some of the aftermarket ones did not take in outside air. I have a really nice restored air duct that goes to the louvered side cowling. I know a lot of the old trucks did not have heaters as they were an option and there were aftermarket ones that did not take in outside air. I have a really nice outside air duct I bead blasted and restored if you need one. I had originally planed on using it but I discovered that by using the Explorer fire wall with the dash and HVAC system there was no way to work it in. Originally the explorer ducted in air from the cowl vent in front of the windshield. I am going to have to cut in a vent under the hood and plumb it in from out front.

Did you encounter any warping when welding in the seams? I was considering using one of the all metal fillers available. I know I can thoroughly clean out the seams down to bare metal which should be done anyway if I weld them.

i have the complete heater system but i`m sure it probably needs a heater core, so for the price i can probably retrofit the tracker heater/ac system, plus its a good chalenge, if it works it might help out others that are seeking a cheap a/c system.(box is compact and all under the dash, nothing goes on my engine firewall, engine side) all my body mods are stitch welded, i let them cool, grind and weld again, until completely done, its a long task but keeps warping to a minimal.

Yeah I do the stitch weld thing too but sometimes it still warps a little. Of course those seams have that flange on the back side which ought to help keep things straight.
