Every shop needs a lathe, or 2 or 3 Very Happy
I have had a 9" Southbend for small turning work and re-machining motor/generator commutators etc..

But it lacked the capacity to machine things like 15" pulleys or flywheels

So i went a little nutty one day and sealed the deal on this beast!

Hey man!, been buisy lately but I'll try and get on here more often Very Happy

been juggling work (I work for a pool cover and solar heating comapny as a fitter & turner / stainless welder) and hobby projects a lot lately.

I paid $200 for the lathe so it was a real good deal!. jsut gotta buy a 4Hp single phase motor for it.

Been looking at some of your project info on here, looks like you have your hands full too! good luck!

I don't know what the rate of exchange between Australian dollars and US dollars is but I have an idea it's close enough to say you got a great deal.

Hope to see more as you progress.

Not everybody has a car engine running their lathe...

That big 3 jaw scroll chuck on that thing is worth three times what you paid for the lathe.

yeah its a lot newer than the lathe, and in good condition!, its a Taiwanese one from 1969 with bolt on jaws.

I think the lathe price works out to about $150 US, not sure where the Aussie dollar is tho.

The Morris 1100 is in bits now (it was a broken bearing cap bolt that caused the cap to float around and knock) but I'll just get some rings to go with the gaskets and bearings I bought and she will go back together.

Good to see a fellow machinist!

I love the setup! A couple questions. Does the motor have a governor on it? Also I know the video was just a test cut, but have you experimented with different drive ratios on your pulley setup? I.E. find where the motor makes the best power and adjust the pulleys accordingly.

if you ever need anything made that's beyond your scope I have connections & would be happy to call in a favor for you.
