    I've decided I need to add a good garage welder to add to my bag of tricks. My only welding experience was shop class in HS (Arc & Oxy) Aside from that I managed to stitch two busted bumpers together with a MIG about 15 years ago. Good left & good right=good bumper...

    I'm a bit of a tool snob. When it comes to getting it right I don't skimp. I'd rather have something that works rather than something I cuss at. I have some bodywork to do, a turbo exhaust & intake to fab up, & a couple of minor projects with 1/4"-3/16" plate steel & Aluminum.

    I don't think I need a full blown welder. All signs point here

    Any thoughts?

    looks like a nice little welder,can`t go wrong with either a miller or lincoln.

    Here's a better deal with free shipping on that same machine. I have dealt with this place before. They usually drop ship from the factories. I bought two welders and a plasma cutter from this place. Shipping was fast and they always have free shipping on everything. Check it out. I also agree with Charger. You can't go wrong with Miller or Lincoln. This place has all the good brands. You will like this machine...

    SCHWEET! I thought I picked a good one. Given my limited welding experience I wasn't about to pull the trigger on this one without some $.02 If I can ever touch base with my welding guru and get his approval I'll pull the trigger on it next payday. I've budgeted about $1000 for projects this month. Looks like the welder takes the cake!

    Thanks for the input. Build threads coming soon! I need to make the time to sift through a couple hundred pics and compose a couple intelligible posts. As I sit here thinking about it, Me thinks it I need to let the lady compose Bertha's build thread. After all, It is her truck...

    In that case there's only one way to go about it... You need to get her signed up and she can do the whole thread herself.

    Maybe this should go in the shop and equipment category but since we are on the subject of welding equipment I though you might like to see some of the welding equipment I have had and currently have.

    First here is a shot of my two newest Lincoln machines

    Here is a shot of my little Lincoln MIG 170-SP and my Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 39 plasma cutter

    I use the 170 mainly for sheet metal and small stuff. It makes it so I don't have to keep changing the wire size in the big MIG.

    The above shots should give you an idea of what I am into with welding equipment. I sold the Lincoln SA-200 for $3,500.00 to an oil well service outfit and although I had planed on keeping the BIG 40 for myself, I decided to sell it when a local pipeline outfit offered me $4,000.00 for it. Originally I thought I really needed the BIG 40 but after two years I only used it once to build a trailer outside and that was mainly because I thought it needed a little exercise. It was always a sort of inconvenience because it needed a lot of care and it had to be kept and used outside. If I ever get another portable it will be something a lot smaller and lighter like a Lincoln Ranger. Maybe I come across someday for the right price that needs fixing up.
