going drag racing this weekend! can`t wait, i set up a customer`s snowmobile for pavement racing, if you haven`t seen this before , basically you replace the track with a smooth slick track, remove sliders and add wheels to the skid frame, remove skis and add wheels, coolant couplers and a cooling cart and the way we go! were racing a `99 xc 600, not my favorite brand (use to race for team Ski doo) but it will do the trick! ran it one a few years ago with no jetting or tuning, ran out of gear, ran 12.5 in the quarter, now were geared and clutched and i`m going to do some jetting, try and get into the low 12`s, will post some pics next week!

    Sounds like fun!

I'd bet the launch is a bit tricky. My mind says that with a contact patch that large with very little weight would make traction a bit of an issue?

I read a article in Popular Mechanics or Popular Science a little while ago about a guy who has developed a rear drive system. Gains were impressive, but then again I know squat about it. Did you see it?

Although we get more snow here that we would like, (20 school out snow days this year), this area has never been much of a snow mobile place. As a matter of fact I doubt the local Polaris dealer sells more that a few a year. This place is like River World and the big thing here is personal watercraft which is a product also made by a lot of the same manufactures. There are actually 150 HP jet skis around here and it is not uncommon to those guys jumping and diving those things and going about forty feet before surfacing. It must be hell to hold on to that thing fighting the forces of the water. I'm too old for that shit so I just watch and wonder. I think I long ago used up 8 of my 9 lives.

    Later...

Friday night was a blast, got a bit of rain, quickly dried the track and had some racing! Saturday we took the sled out and started to dial it in, 3 passes total and then we got rain!! enough to close down the track! one complete pass, the other 2 we had to switch lanes and it would always pull us into the guide rail so we would have to let off, traction is not a problem, were actually getting to mutch of it and can`t keep the front end down!

Cool pics. Sounds like you need to look up that rear drive article. From what I understood it uses the rotational torque to keep the contact patch closer to neutral. It was in Pop Sci. Or Pop Mech. within the last couple of months. If I can dig up the article I'll pass it on to you.
