DARKSIDER In the world of automotive hobbyists a Darksider is one who modifies and or customizes any and all sorts of vehicles. The Darksiders are in a class of their own simply because they endeavor to be different and do things that others would not attempt for a number of reasons mostly being related to a lack of ability and fear of non conformity.

This is a forum for people who think outside the box in everything they do. It doesn’t matter if you are modifying or building from scratch. It doesn’t matter what brand or brands of vehicles or components you are using. It doesn’t matter if you are working on a mini car or a bus.

Easy axle pulling with tools YOU already have? Empty Easy axle pulling with tools YOU already have?

A friend of mine called to ask if I had a puller to help him get a stuck axle out of his Chevy truck. He lives some distance away, and it would be a chunk of his Sunday to drive to my place and back to his, so I give him this advice (Editor's note -- sounds like a Kenny Rogers song -- the only things missing are the train, the last sip of whiskey and the cigarette).

(Chorus -- you can actually sing this part to the tune of "The Gambler") Turn the brake drum around backwards, and put all the lugnuts back on, but only tighten each one about 2 turns. Then use the brake drum as a puller. I told him to call back and let me know if it worked.
He called me back about 20 minutes later and told me I was pretty smart ---- I told him he was right. (Grumpyoldman's note -- That's debatable...)

Ok, I'll be your straight man...
How does the brake drum on backwards pull the axle out?

    wow

    Thats weak.

Might work on modern cars, though.

The last axle I pulled wouldnt budge until I torched the axle out of the car,
chained it to an 18 wheeler,
and used my Ford 545 Backhoe to pull on it.

And it wasnt even an old car....it was a 59 Chevy.

Heres your gloom and doom for the day
