    Hi Folks,

    It's me again...

Now that I have the answers I sought about the 4V Holley, I'm into another carb. This one is a Ford Motorcraft 2 barrel. Problem is that it came off of a 302 that some hack tried to put in the '53 F-100 I bought over a year ago. I say "hack" because it was a lousey job and from what I saw they never got it running. The job was not finished. I mention this to point out that given the level of skill and craftsmanship involved, I can't assume that the carb was the original one designated for that engine. These guys could have pulled it off of anything.

Anyway, I need the carb for another project so I pulled it and took it to the real parts store to see if they could match it up with a kit. The guy on the counter said it looked and awfull lot like the 2 barrel on his '67 390. He looked that one up in his book and came up with a kit. Problem is, it's not the right kit. Everything is OK except the gasket for the top of the carb is different.

Unfortunately, at some point, someone removed the little ID tag and did not put it back on, so I have no numbers to go by.

What I need is access to some place online that has pictures of the diffefent Motorcraft carbs to see if I can pick out the right model that way.

I'm taking the kit back today but I doubt I'll have much luck finding the right one.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe try a 70's model F150 2wd with 302? Did it look like it was original to the engine? You can narrow down the years by looking at the 302 itself....dipstick location, egr, casting and date codes, etc...

    Hi Scott,

Since I posted this I found a site sort of by accident that led me to something else and the same again. It appears that I had a kit for the Motorcraft 2100D and the 2150 is what I need a kit for. At least by looking at the exploded view of the parts that seems to be the difference. I am about to go back to town so I will take back the kit I have and get the kit for the 2150 if they have it. Otherwise I will probably have to order it.

I did think of going the route you suggested but given the fact that so much stuff was cobbled up and thrown together, I seriously doubt if it was the right carb. For one thing there was no place to hook up the hot tube to the automatic choke. I would think that if it were all original on the 302, that stuff would be in place.

I'll let you know how this works out.

Well, the trip to the parts store was a bust. They had two kits listed to cover the Motorcraft 2150 series but neither one was right. I may resort to going with engine numbers. Where do I look for them? Maybe we can take it from there. I have no idea how to research the numbers when I find them.

    I found a picture of a 2150 in this PDF file: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/motorcraft_2150_carb.pdf

The gasket is different than mine but the carb parts are the same. One of the kits I looked at yesterday had the gasket in this PDF file so I guess I'll just bite the bullet and go get the damn thing.

I'm not to sure now why I am bothering to do this as I no longer need the carb for what I was doing. In all this involvement with this carb and the Holley 750 4V I have come to realize that thses things are worth money. JC Whitney and AutoZone are asking almost $200.00 for these things. I think I will do the rebuild and put that damn thing on ebay. I figure I can get at least $50.00 to $75.00 for it or maybe even more. The kit is less than $20.00. Maybe I ought to start picking up old carbs and rebuilding them for resale. I suppose the market demand for these things has shrunk since all the electronic fuel injection has become so prevalent for the past twenty years. It appears to have become a specilaized market. it will probably be even worse after the Cash for Clunkers thing takes it's toll.
