Well I did it.They say it's easy after the first cut. It's not back together yet but it's chopped. Think I will have to 1/4 the top to get it right. Let me know what you think. RUSTY

    Hey Rusty

That looks good. Keep us updated with more pics as things continue. I've done the chop just once. It was more work than I expected. Or maybe I'm just lazy. But I've still got the truck. I bought it in 1992 and I still like it and I'm glad i chopped it.

    Good luck

    Rusty,

I'm interested to know if the windshield in your truck is flat or curved glass. I've never chopped an F1, but in the pictures it looks like the glass is flat.

Hi Andrew;; All the glass in my truck is flat. If it weren't I would NOT have chopped it. I'd had it done and watched so I could tackle the next one on my own.LOL RUSTY

Tom, the finished truck looks great, a really nice transformation.Does it have a one piece flat glass or is there still a division in the center where it used to be raised, it's hard to tell in this picture

I chopped it;;PICS Empty IH windshield

Post  tomget Tue Jun 23, 2009 7:33 pm

Thanks. Yes I still have the truck. And I used it daily in my little cleaning business for about 4 or 5 years.
And it worked great. It mostly sits in the driveway now, because I'm drivng my new/old 58F100,
and I want to do some repainting on the IH as well. Plus I can't afford insurance on more than 2 at a time.
And the windshield is actually two pieces of flat glass in what
car folks around here sometimes refer to as a "V butt" windshield. I've always guessed--if I'm saying it
correctly--that they are talking about how the glazier cuts the "angle" on the glass edge at the
middle of the two piece windshield and somehow "glues" it together. Thus eliminating the OEM
metal divider. It appears as a one piece windshield but
is actually two pieces of glass glued at the "butt" seam. I chopped the OEM windshield frame and he put in the
glass. And of course the two pieces form a kinda "shallow" V at the center--the windshield and cab
on the old IH's actually form a kinda V. The two pieces are not actually flat as in say a F1.

Post  tomget Tue Jun 23, 2009 7:43 pm

By the way I should mention to you all, this truck--the 48IH--is pretty much my
only claim to fame. An otherwise unnoticed life--but a pretty
good one none the less. The IH has been a popular truck with people around
this area, and Street Rodder mag did a nice article with build photos I can't
even find anymore-photos I mailed them originally. If you ever see a copy of
    Street Rodder Aug 99 see
me and my truck on pgs 94-96.

I've seen that done on a 37 ford sedan and it looks good, looks more custom, thanks for the reply.
